Why is anti aging skin care important

Anti aging skin care is what majority of the people, particularly those in the thirty plus age group would love to know about. They are dying to possess soft and supple skin even if it means spending a lot of money. To look young and beautiful despite your increasing age is a great feeling. Quite naturally.

We have often heard people say,"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder" and that Inner beauty is more important than external beauty of the skin. But in reality you need to impress upon the people around you with your good looks to make them understand your good nature.

Is this practically possible for everyone? By good looks, I don't mean the gorgeously made up beauty. You can look smart and beautiful by putting up a confident air about yourself and wearing crisp clothes to suit the occasion. You can look beautiful with a clear skin that would impress onlookers.

For this, you should take good care of your skin from the early years in order to delay, if not prevent, aging. Your confidence, energy levels, less stress, good diet, work outs, happiness etc. do contribute a great deal to your beauty. 'Love yourself' should be your primary maxim to achieving beauty.

Causes of aging

There are two main reasons for aging:

Intrinsic factors or the natural process of aging: This happens mainly due to heredity or the genetic make up that you inherit from your ancestors. Dry skin, for instance, is a genetic factor that causes premature aging as it is incapable of holding enough moisture that is needed by the skin. So your skin starts forming wrinkles and exhibits visible signs of aging.

Though you cannot do much about this, you can always resort to healthy methods like taking a good anti aging diet rich in Vitamin A,C,E and beta carotene and drinking lots of water to hydrate your skin. The vitamins and beta carotene are antioxidants which assist in skin rejuvenation. Regular exercises also help in toning your skin.

As for topical applications, you can use a moisturizer to counter the effects of dry skin. Anti aging skin care cosmetics are also available in plenty over the counter. These assist you to a certain extent in concealing flaws like acne scars on your skin. These cosmetic lotions and creams camouflage your blemishes and make you look young and beautiful.

Alternatively, there are several anti aging skin care products available these days. These products claim 100 percent success in helping you overcome the effects of aging.

Extrinsic factors: The process of aging is accelerated by external factors like pollution, sun's rays, stress and smoking. Of course, you can put in a lot of effort to avoid this kind of aging.

How sun, stress and smoking cause aging

  • The UV rays of the sun are harmful for the skin. Excessive exposure to the sun's rays causes wrinkles on the skin.
  • The biochemical changes caused in the body by smoking results in wrinkles on the skin.
  • Pollution causes free radicals in the skin which destroy the collagen due to which premature aging sets in. Free radicals are caused by smoking and sun rays too.
  • Stress, as many of you may already be aware, leads to wrinkles and lines on the skin.

Precautions

  • Prevention is better than cure.Try to avoid going out in the sun as much as possible. If you must, take care to wear a wide brimmed hat and sunglasses to protect your face and eyes from the heat. Not to forget the use of sunscreen lotion every time you go out..
  • Take a diet rich in antioxidants like Vitamin C which is present in many vegetables and fruits. Keep your skin hydrated by intake of lots of water.
  • Quit smoking and almost immediately you will see visible changes in your skin.
  • Keep your skin clean by washing it with a good cleanser particularly after exposure to the external environment.

Anti aging skin care treatments

There are excellent remedies to prevent aging of skin by way of scientifically tested methods like chemical peeling, dermabrasion and dermal fillers to name a few. For this you should seek the advice of a dermatologist who will render assistance depending on various factors like your skin type, age etc. These treatments are quite expensive and are meant for people who can afford them and for those who do not have the patience to 'wait' for good results in their anti aging mission.

There are other less expensive topical treatments too. You have a wide range of anti aging skin cosmetics to camouflage the flaws on the skin. This is of course temporary and care should be taken to remove the make up as soon as possible. There are a lot many anti aging skin care products that claim success in repairing the texture and tone of the skin when you use them.

Above all, it is very important to understand that a good diet, physical exercise and less exposure to the harmful rays of the sun can prevent your skin from wrinkling and giving you an older look.
