My Earnest Desire For A Better World

H.o.w

One World One Humanity! What a lovely idea! But is it too much to ask for? No, I don’t think so. Only if we start thinking big like this, we would be able to achieve at least a part of it. As Bill, who launched this mighty movement called H.O.W. with his powerful words, said that everyone of us should try and ‘make a difference’ by getting ‘involved’ and not simply turn away saying that it is not their problem.

What I wish for in this short span of life is a better world in all aspects. By trying to accomplish a few important things in this life, we may at least depart from this world with a little peace of mind about a world free from all the ills and evils rampant everywhere.

The Silent Sufferers

There are many people in this world including you and I who want a lot of changes to take place so as to make it a better place for everyone including innocent little children to live in. There are many social evils experienced by people but I would say that they are not as serious as those experienced by hapless children who are at the mercy of their elders.

My major concern is about the little children who are physically and sexually abused and harassed. What have they done to experience such atrocities at the hands of their own blood relatives or others whoever they may be, and be deprived of an enjoyable childhood?

Atrocious attack on innocent children

A couple of months ago, I was shocked by this incident that happened in a neighboring state. A 13-year old girl did not leave the school premises on a particular day. Her teacher saw that the girl looked upset and agitated and hesitant to leave. When she questioned her, the girl started crying and said that her father, brother and an uncle had been abusing her sexually for the last 2 years.

The school authorities immediately informed the police who arrested all the three men. Her brother, just fifteen years of age, has been put in a juvenile home and the other two in police custody. It is said that her mother had been unaware of such happenings. But medical reports have confirmed that the girl had been sexually assaulted. The father, a frequent visitor to the local prison for petty crimes, is a drunkard, reports say, and beat his wife every day in an inebriated condition.

In this case, whatever justification is given, it is the little girl who has lost her childhood that is a precious gift to children. There are much younger girls who are being sexually abused every day in some part of the world. Not only girls but boys too have been exposed to this abominable practice. In short, innocent little children have to brave a treacherous life in this bad and untrustworthy world. They turn to their parents for comfort, security and love but if those same elders betray them and ruin their life, what will they do? Who will they turn to for solace when they feel miserable?

Making a difference......

Why should this ever happen?

I keep asking myself and my friends all these questions over and over again sometimes to the point of irritating them because no one has any answer for them. I (and everyone who has a conscience should) feel morally responsible for these betrayed children whose private life does not come to light even though they may live in our neighborhood. They are either threatened with dire consequences if they were to reveal their miserable situation or they are too scared to divulge it to others for reasons best known only to them. They are after all little children who cannot make any judgments about their parents or other elders.

In one case I read about a fellow hubber abused by her own father from a very young age making her believe that what she was made to do was a very ‘normal’ thing. Poor child! My heart really goes out to these little children who are, instead of being cared for, subjected to torture at the hands of wild people unworthy of being called humans.

What can we do?

Let’s all join hands in eradicating this evil from the world. I call upon all the people to try and help bring this abominable and despicable practice of child abuse to an end so that children will have a peaceful and comfortable life in this world.

I dedicate this hub to Bill who started the H.O.W. movement and several other hubbers who have joined his group on Facebook and are part of his website.and who have committed themselves to the noble cause of humanity by contributing their mighty writing skills and participating in the 365/365 challenge in order to make this world a better and safer place to live in. It’s high time we did something about safeguarding children from abuse and letting them have a peaceful childhood.

The H.O.W. Movement

H.O.W. is a movement that is the dream child of Bill Holland. It has a simple goal - to unite all humanity in seeking ways to unite all peoples across the world.
